At the age of 15, derby resident Aaron Mikolajcik is getting an opportunity that many young players strive for. Beginning tomorrow in Fort Scott, Mikolajcik will be give the chance to play in the Babe Ruth Classic.
Recently he was named to the Babe Ruth Baseball League as 15-year-old all star. He is one of six players selected from District three who help to make up the West All Stars for the tenth annual Babe Ruth Classic.
The Classic is a State program hat allows the 36 most talented 15-year-old players in the state to showcase their talent in a series of games.
With a .524 batting average, a .625 on base percentage and 15 stolen bases this season, Mikolajcik certainly has talent to show.
Mikolajcik plays as a member of the Derby Tigers during regular season. Along with catching and playing in the outfield, Mikolajcik also pitches as a relief.
“Aaron always works hard,” Tigers manager and wife of the coach Amy Tucker said. “He’s always practicing.”
Not only does Mikolajcik give the game all his effort, he also brings a lot to the team.
“He has a great attitude and is always willing to help others on the team,” Tucker said.
The Classic is played each year at one of various sites throughout the state and consists of two, nine-inning, games between the West team (Districts 1-4) and the East team (Districts 5-7).
Beginning tomorrow Mikolajcik will begin the Classic in Fort Scott.
“My husband and I both feel that Aaron has excelled not only as a player but as a leader,” Tucker said.
