Derby, Kan. -

The Derby Twins returned home yesterday after being on the road for nearly two weeks.

Upon their return the Twins were holding first place in the Jayhawk League. At the time of press they were trailed by Hays, who was half a game behind them.

“It’s great that we’ve been able to climb back up the ladder again,” coach Bill Shaw said.

Battling against Joplin yesterday, the Twins began their family week. They continue it with a game against Junction City today, Newton on Thursday and a series against Hays beginning on Friday.

“We have to be able to prove that we can beat the top teams in the league,” Shaw said.

The team is looking forward to new players coming in, which will be a great help in filling the positions of injured players.

For now, the focus is keeping the game strong at home. The team hopes to hold onto their success in Derby before hitting the road again on July 11, to travel to Nevada.

“We have to defend our home turf in the next couple of weeks,” Shaw said. “That’s what will keep us in the driver’s seat.”
