Drillers win State championship

Derby, Kan. -

Coaches Mike Johnson, Lynn Elis and Harlan Gile led local baseball team the Drillers to the West Urban State Championship title.
The team is comprised of players Ethan Nelson, Collin Ellis, Hunter Johnson, Mason Hartman, Brandon Gile, Steve Ramos, Tanner Igo, Tanner Olmstead, Kreighton Rogers, Jacob Ensz, Dominic Stolfi and Brandon Teter.
The boys have had a successful season and, according to their coaches, played outstanding ball.
The Drillers went 41-18-1 for the year. In April they took first place at the Hardball Classic at West Urban. Their success continued when they placed second at the Sapulpa Super Series, Salt City 2 Legged Qualifier and SWBC 10u May Day Classic. The team also took third place in the West Urban League with a record of 12-4.
The coaches commented on the players’ discipline and respect for the sport.
Batting over .500 as a team during bracket play is what led them to become the USSSA 9U AA Division State Champions.
The boys finished out their season in Muskogee, Okla. at the World Series, placing seventh at Nationals and going 3-2.
With the astonishing pitching the team was able to go deep before losing 13-12 in three extra innings to the Oklahoma Elite.
The Drillers is a great team and saw a great season as an outcome of their hard work and dedication.
