Derby, Kan. -

Derby junior football players completed a camp at Panther Stadium last week.

The young players were put in pads and taught plays as they worked with high school coaches to learn more about their position.

All positions were taught with the help of the coaches and high school seniors.

“(The seniors) enjoy it because the kids really look up to them,” varsity coach Brandon Clark said.

This year is the second year for the camp, which has many purposes.

“We do it for one, just so we can see our kids because obviously they are our future and for two so that we can get the kids in pads and just help them learn more about the game,” Clark said.

The children were taught to run the same plays that they will be expected to know once they enter the middle school and high school football programs.

After practice each evening coaches would attend a clinic to discuss plays and players.

The camp has benefits for all, the young players are given a head start to becoming great players, coaches are provided with a foresight of their future players and current Panther players show their knowledge of the game.
