Derby, Kan. -

The newest form of exercise technology has made its way to the Derby Recreation Commission (DRC). Standing Expresso bikes have been introduced to the DRC’s fitness room as the most recent discovery of an interactive work out.
This piece of equipment gives users the opportunity to be engaged in their activity whether it is by cruising along the California coast, biking through the Peruvian mountains or chasing dragons in a medieval style cart. As the biker trecks their way up steep hills the resistance increases and they have the ability to steer the bike with a realistic feel in the moving handlebars.
“In regard to technology it is most definitely to most innovative piece of machinery at the DRC,” Director of Information Technology Rob McDonald said.
Bikers have more than 30 interactive trails to chose from. The chosen trail will be displayed on the attached 19 inch LCD directly infront of the user. There is an adjustable seat, eight streaming audio channels and reinforced gear shifters, all reasons why  McDonald describes the equipment as very user friendly.
As opposed to basic exercise equipment the Expresso bikes give exercisers more to keep their mind occupied than thinking about the workout.
“By the time they are done with their exercise they have gotten a great workout and they don’t even notice it,” McDonald said.
DRC member Brad Ward tried the Expresso bike for the first time yesterday.
“You actually have stuff to concentrate on,” Ward said.
Unlike many new and technological exercise machines the Expresso bike did not come from unknown developers. According to McDonald the three people that developed the software for the bike have previously worked with Sony Playstation.
“They managed to make this something well beyond what the fitness  industry has ever seen,” McDonald said.
Currently the DRC has two standing Expresso bikes in their fitness room. The recumbent form of the bikes are currently in production and two of those will soon find a home at the DRC.
