Several hundred people were packed under the red-striped tent at the Derby Golf and Country Club Thursday night for the Derby Chamber of Commerce’s annual Consumption Junction event.
The event began at 6 p.m. with a silent auction and food fair sponsored by The Oaks Golf Course Community.
Attendees were able to sample foods from Derby restaurants such as Village Inn, Heavenscent Creations, At Your Service, Applebee’s, Mr. Goodcents, Make and Take Meals, Sig’s Gourmet Butcher Shop, Pizza Hut, Blackberry Lane Cookie Co., Madrocks Sports Bar, The Main Street Bistro by Laurie’s Kitchen, Bagatelle Bakery, Sonic, Little Caesars, and Kentucky Fried Chicken.
After the silent auction and food fair, the Capitol Federal live auction began around 8 p.m., with the entertaining Swenson Auctioneers auctioning more than 200 items off to the highest bidder.
Some of the auction items included a 2001 Chevy Blazer donated by Hambelton LaGreca, a year long family membership at Derby Golf & Country Club, prints from Dr. William Durnil and framed by Artistic Angles, and a vacation to Branson, Mo. donated by the Warren Family, O.J. Lichlyter and Carstar of Derby. Damm Pharmacy donated a Nintendo Wii for auction and the game Rock Band was donated by Farmers Insurance Kristin Ward Agency.
Derby High School DECA were on hand as volunteers to assist with both auctions and Chamber staff mingled throughout to make sure everyone was having a good time.
Consumption Junction is the Chamber’s largest fundraiser and biggest event of the year, and it is clearly a popular one – the crowd was stuffed into the large circus tents, and some vendors ran out of the food.
Even so, the event was a success to all involved.
“It’s the Chamber and the community coming together for great food and fun,” Tara Whitt, Chamber spokesperson said. “It was the biggest event in town.”
