Derby, Kan. -

The city of Derby’s citywide garage sale registration began May 5 and ends May 30.

Organizers are encouraging residents to sign up early.

“People should sign up as soon as they can so that they can be assured of being in on the area’s largest citywide garage sale,” event organizer Frank Wilken said.

Emprise Bank and Boeing Credit Union on Rock Road have recently been added to the list of  companies where residents can sign up to participate in the sale.

In addition to The Derby Reporter and The Derby Informer, citizens can also sign up at Bank of America, Bank of the West, Boeing Credit Union on Buckner, Commerce Bank, Credit Union of America, Fidelity Bank, Intrust Bank, Mulvane State Bank, Valley State Bank, and both Verus Bank locations.

A donation of $10 to Crime Stoppers of Derby, Inc. takes care of all details required for a garage sale, including advertisements in the local newspapers, a sign for the front yard, and a listing of the participant’s address on a local map that will be distributed and printed in the papers.

“Registering is quick and easy,” Wilken said.

The citywide sale will take place on Saturday, June 7.

This is the 17th year that Crime Stoppers have sponsored this event in Derby, with the reasoning that having a number of garage sales on one Saturday in the spring brings a large number of people to the city and makes everyone’s garage sale more productive.

“It has become a very popular event for the city,” Wilken said.
