Derby Mayor Dion Avello has received four applications to fill a vacant seat in Ward III on the Derby City Council following the recent resignation of council member Charlie Schwarz on Aug. 12.
Applicants include Joseph Dinino, Terry J. Taylor, Vicki R. Walton, and Chuck Warren.
The application period has closed for the Ward III seat.

Dinino is retired from an Air Force career of 21 years and from a Boeing career of 20 years.

He has been active in officer positions with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the Masonic Lodge.

Taylor has been a pricing analyst at the Boeing Company for 18 years. He is a 46-year resident of Derby, graduating from Derby High School in 1979 and Wichita State University in 1988.
Walton is retired from a paralegal career at Foulston Siefkin, LLP and graduated from WSU in 2003.

She has lived in Derby for 42 years and is an active volunteer with the Derby Community Coalition Promoting Healthy Choices, Victory in the Valley, and the Kansas Search and Rescue Dog Association where she is also on the board of directors and serves as treasurer.

Warren is a real estate broker/manager at Plaza Real Estate in Derby. He has served on the city council since 1999 as a representative of Ward II until his residence recently moved to Ward III and he resigned from his position.

Avello is considering these four applications and conducting interviews of applicants.

His nomination is expected at a Derby City Council meeting later in September.
