Derby, Kan. -

His career has ranged from amazing meltdowns to Aquaman masks.

Derby's Woody Austin never fails to entertain golf fans. Sunday, he rallied to take the lead in the Buick Open near Flint Mich. only to have two long putts turn into 3-putt bogeys dropping him into a tie for second place with Bubba Watson.

Kenny Perry won the tournament and brought home $900,000 for his efforts.

"I threw it away," Austin told a press conference after his round ended Sunday. "It's nobody's fault but my own."

Austin expressed his disappointment with this lost opportunity for his fourth win on tour. He also missed a chance at a win earlier this year in New Orleans.

"That's two chokes in a row in contention this year," Austin said. "I better figure it out or I better quit."

The fans hope Austin never quits. Despite his disappointment with his finish, Austin signed autographs for more than 15 minutes.

"If you watched me putt all week, I should have won this tournament by ten strokes the way I played," Austin said.

His putting has been the bane of his season.

He is averaging 29.91 putts per round this year. The average on tour is 29.3.

That doesn't sound like much of a difference, but it means he is giving away almost 2.5 strokes per tournament to the average players. He lost by one stroke this week.
But it certainly isn't all bad news for Austin.

His second place finish moved him to 42nd in the World Golf Rankings. The $440,000 prize money he brought back from Michigan brought his 2008 total to $1.43 million - good enough for 27th place in the FedEx cup standings.
